How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer | Buffalo, Batavia & Rochester, NY

Updated: Jan 7, 2022

In most areas, there are TONS of excellent choices for a wedding photographer. So, how do you choose the right one for you? Easy! Look for just these few key things and the obvious choice will jump right off of your screen.

1. Start by looking at the photographer’s online portfolio. There are many different editing styles used by photographers today and it is important to choose one whose style matches with your vision for your big day. It may take looking through several portfolios (thank goodness for the internet!) to get a feel for the style you are most drawn to.

Your wedding photographer is an integral part of your wedding day and will be by your side for much of the time they are there. They help to keep your wedding timeline on track, wrangle guests, and ensure that Aunt Betty stays on the opposite side of the group from Uncle Ned, so as not to incite any unnecessary drama pre or post ceremony!

Sitting across the table from your photographer will help you to determine pretty quickly if their personality and style of shooting is a good match for you. This is going to be determined by your gut - listen to it! Do you connect with them and trust

them? That’s your person.

3. Ask to see a full wedding gallery. Anyone should be able to pull a handful of good images to show you in their portfolio. What you want to see is if they are capturing the day the way you want it documented. Seeing a full gallery that has been delivered to a previous bride, will help you to see if that is a gallery you would be excited to receive from your own wedding.
